A Glorious Death

You should see the fall of Jacaranda flowers
late in a Savannah year
silently genial
gently sweeping
pink as half of a young couple’s mood
while in the throes of heartbreak’s bloom.

You should have seen the beautiful death of Jacaranda flowers
…how I’ve tried to remember it right…

petals lying prostrate in salute to lost lust and impending regret…

But the most captivating moments
hold still in the grip of time
until they descend on us one day
when we’re waistdeep in the uncertainty of January
And call us back to the shenanigans
enjoyed late in a Savannah year
against the back drop of a Jacaranda flower funeral.
